The key to it all is striving for balance. Does any of us ever truly find it? Doubtful. But it's important to respect our own drive for being both a great mother and an accomplished professional. And it's gravy if you can do either one without an extra serving of guilt! If there is any magic in being a working mom, it’s that I make it to office in the morning. Every weekday I get up at 6am, shower and dress myself before my son wakes up. Then I dress him. We both eat (which is a challenge), then I pack up his bag and my briefcase while he makes a mess of the living room. Then I carry everything to car while trying to hold his hand so he doesn't run into the street. I drive a half-hour to his daycare and then go to my nearby office. When I sit down at my desk at 8:30am I am honestly amazed that I got there. I think I deserve a standing ovation just for surviving my morning roller-coaster routine.
